The first day, whether virtual or in-person, is a critical first impression for you and your new team member, it gives them a chance to embrace the passion and core values of your company.
Don’t waste it on paperwork and the do’s and don’ts. Key takeaways include:
• Understand why retention starts before day one of employment

Minecraft as a Social Impact and Gaming Business
Children's test scores are down across the state, they have been socially isolated since the COVID-19 pandemic, and parents are looking for more progressive education methods. Harry Devitre represents the next generation of leaders who want to use their favorite social gaming tool, Minecraft, as a way to bring the community together. What first started with a YouTube channel, which has 76 subscribers, has now transformed into a platform where parents can easily help their kids join a social community of like-minded students pointed towards creating social change in the St. Louis region. In this session, we will provide an overview of the platform, demonstrate its unique value proposition in the marketplace, and open up the floor for feedback in order to make it better.

Starting Up For Success: Fostering Effective and Inclusive Communication Climates
"Anxious about public speaking? Worried about your next (or first) pitch? Eager to hone your leadership skills? Ready to make inclusivity a priority in your organization?  Research shows that soft skills are vital to success in startups; however, they are often lacking in the start-up community, specifically STEM related startups. Leaders at startups will create more effective and inclusive communication climates when they make a concerted effort to develop soft skills along with the requisite hard skills of their sector.

In this session, facilitated by communication experts who are also start-up entrepreneurs, attendees will gain practical knowledge and take away strategic tips they can immediately put into action to begin addressing the soft skill gap between what team leaders need and what team members can provide.

Key soft skills that promote effective communication that will be addressed in this session include: understanding leadership styles and types of leadership power, addressing communication anxiety, and adapting technical and persuasive messages for lay audiences to pitch ideas and products or gain funding.

Communication effectiveness is often the priority for team leaders, but we argue that communication climates cannot be effective without also being inclusive. Soft skill training and any professional development for that matter should be couched within an understanding that systems of privilege, power, and oppression permeate even the most lateral of organizational structures. The session will conclude with a discussion of the importance of leaders speaking the language of diversity and inclusion while also modeling inclusive communication behaviors for their team."

Most startups have unique needs when it comes to accepting payments. The fees associated with accepting payments are often the second-highest expense for a business behind labor. Also, knowing the best solutions to accept payments can have dramatic effects on revenues.

You will learn how to choose the best solutions for your business, minimize the fees associated, or turn payments into a lucrative revenue stream. Sales ... Who Me?
I don’t know about you, but I did not start my business because I wanted to be a salesperson. Let’s face it, when you think about salespeople, we don’t always have positive thoughts.
As a solopreneur or entrepreneur, we wear many hats, it just so happens one of those hats is sales … otherwise known as relationship building. This session will be about tapping into your entrepreneur mindset to generate more revenue. Let’s face it, the best product and/or ideas won’t matter if you don’t have positive cash flow.

We will learn:
- Revenue building techniques for both in person and virtual conversations.
- Key attributes of today’s clients; what’s important to them and why should they want to talk to you?
- Learn to look differently at your entrepreneur mindset to increase revenue.

Explore real-life ways to connect with teams, organizations, individuals and clients as well.
